About the Role

As a Community Organizer, you will work closely with our team to engage and mobilize community members, develop strategic campaigns, and support Silence The Violence initiatives on both local and national levels. This volunteer position is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a prominent nonprofit and build a network of change-makers dedicated to eradicating violence and empowering communities.

Responsibilities:
Community Engagement: Support local outreach efforts, engaging residents, community leaders, and partner organizations in dialogue and action.

Campaign Development: Assist in developing, planning, and executing strategic campaigns for community events, including the Official Silence The Violence March and other initiatives.

Event Coordination: Collaborate on logistics and communications for key events, helping to ensure they run smoothly and effectively mobilize community members.

Social Media & Digital Outreach: Work with our team to drive engagement on digital platforms, sharing key messages, updates, and calls-to-action to grow awareness and build community.

Data Collection & Analysis: Gather insights from community interactions, evaluate program effectiveness, and assist in reporting on metrics to measure impact.

Advocacy Support: Provide administrative support to advocacy campaigns, such as helping draft communications to local officials, gathering community feedback, and engaging in local policy efforts.

Requirements

  • Access to Reliable Internet & Computer for virtual meetings and assignments.

  • Strong Communication Skills (written and verbal) and a passion for connecting with diverse communities.

  • Proven Organizing Experience through volunteering, previous roles, or personal initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement.

  • Commitment to Positive Change: A deep dedication to community betterment, social justice, and eradicating violence.

  • Interest in Running for Office (a plus): Aspiring public officials or individuals interested in leadership roles are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the Company

For over 17 years, Silence The Violence Inc. has united communities through action and advocacy, organizing the nation's official Silence The Violence March in Detroit, MI, annually. Together with local partners, we work to address systemic violence by building meaningful bridges between residents, leaders, and organizations. Our mission is to create peaceful, sustainable communities through our proven Community Violence Intervention model, tackling root causes like poverty, gaps in education, and mental health challenges.
